An advertising copywriter, marketing consultant and Bible teacher... some would say they are an odd combination.

It may seem that way, but what advertising and marketing do is compel you to think about the context of a product - its purpose and the people for whom it is intended - and then to communicate that purpose effectively. The Bible is not an abstract book, but was written in a social and historical context, for a purpose. It is not what I want the Bible to say that counts, but what the original writers intended to convey to those to whom they wrote - these are the things that establish its meaning. Only then can accurately we determine what God wants His Word to convey to us.
